Forum Title: Augmentin Tablet Vs. Amoxicillin (Amoxil)
Posted by:AmitriptylineBrite
Hey everyone! Ive been dealing with a few antibiotic related issues but decided to dive in and see if anyone has any insights or advice for me.
My pharmacist suggested Amoxicillin which I've been using recently, and Ive tried both Amoxicillin and Augmentin. Amoxicillin has helped tremendously in the past with its ability to fight off infections but, Amoxicillin does not work well for bacterial infections like strep throat and sinus infections. This is a common issue with me but, the Augmentin makes it easier to administer and works faster.
Amoxicillin is a combination medication with amoxicillin, clavulanic acid, and penicillin which should be taken together at a different time of the day. When the bacteria are in a resistant manner, the antibiotic can't work. If the bacteria are resistant, the Amoxicillin works but the Amoxicillin can't combat infections properly.
So, amoxicillin is a better choice when it comes to treating bacterial infections. Amoxicillin has been a go-to option for me in the past and I've been using it with no issues.

Hi, My Pharmacist advised me to take Amoxicillin and clavulanic acid with the Amoxicillin but I was wondering if I could get this medication in my script. Can this medication be purchased without a prescription? Also, does anyone have any insights or suggestions on how I should choose the right antibiotic for my infection?
Hey GanbaxyDuke, sorry for the confusion. My pharmacy is in South Africa and I would be interested in seeing how your treatment is progressing. Thanks in advance!
Hey GanbaxyDuke, Thank you so much! I have read that Amoxicillin can help prevent infections but, if it does, it would be a good idea to take it with a full glass of water and antibiotics at the same time.
Hi GanbaxyDuke, I think your question is valid, but, what if you do not have a prescription? That's why I suggest you take the medication with a full glass of water and antibiotics. Your doctor will be able to advise you on whether it's safe for you to take it with a full glass of water and antibiotics.
Also, do not self-medicate unless your doctor tells you to do so. Self-medicating is a serious medical emergency and even in case of antibiotics, it is very common for people to self-treat.

Thank you for the information. I'll do the self-medication myself. I'm currently taking a penicillin-based antibiotic (amoxicillin) at my local hospital. Do you recommend a different antibiotic?
Hi GanbaxyDuke, It's always best to consult your pharmacist before starting any medication. If you are unsure, ask them about your particular situation. They can guide you on the best course of action and can also help you decide on an appropriate dosage for your specific situation.
I know it's not easy to decide on the right antibiotic for your infection but, I will always take the right one. I think this is where it gets tricky.
Thank you so much for all your help and advice, GanbaxyDuke. Ill be careful about self-medicating. Also, I've been prescribed amoxicillin for a few days and am currently on amoxicillin and clavulanic acid. What about taking it with a full glass of water?
You're welcome, GanbaxyDuke! If you have any questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask. Good luck.
